The Estate
The Domaine Pierre Martin vineyard is located around Chavignol, a small wine-growing village in the Cher department of the Centre-Val de Loire region, also famous for its goat cheese, Crottin de Chavignol. Currently converting to organic farming, terroirs such as Monts Damnés and Culs de Beaujeu are already world-renowned.
The terroir
The vines of Domaine Pierre Martin's Sancerre Les Culs de Beaujeu are planted on hillsides on Kimmeridgian marl soil full of oyster fossils known as "Terres Blanches." This steep terroir makes vineyard work difficult.
The grape variety
The Sauvignon Blanc grape variety produces dry white wines with rather vegetal aromas. In the Loire Valley, Sauvignon Blanc is vinified on its own and produces powerful wines with marked acidity.
The wine
Les Culs de Beaujeu from Domaine Pierre Martin is a firm and distinguished wine with a pronounced personality thanks to its famous flint notes. This white Sancerre is the perfect accompaniment to cold starters, shellfish or raw fish, white meats, or fresh cheeses.
