The Terroir
The 59-hectare vineyard, all in one piece, rests on Garonne gravel soils, characteristic of the region, offering optimal natural drainage and thermal regulation favorable to the maturation of the grapes. The vines, aged on average 25 years, are planted at a density of 7,000 vines per hectare. The grape varieties are dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon (55%), providing structure and aging potential, complemented by Merlot (45%), which gives roundness and flesh to the wines .
Winemaking
Vinification is traditional and plot-by-plot. Harvesting is manual, followed by a 48-hour cold pre-fermentation maceration. Fermentation takes place in thermo-regulated concrete and stainless steel vats for three weeks. Malolactic fermentation takes place in vats, and aging is conducted for 12 months in French oak barrels, some of which are new .
Tasting and storage
The 2020 Château du Glana has excellent aging potential, lasting over 15 years, while being available now for impatient enthusiasts .
In short, the 2020 vintage of Château du Glana is a great success, perfectly illustrating the character and quality of the Saint-Julien terroir.
