The Estate
The history of Maison Girardin began in 1980 when Vincent Girardin took over his parents' two hectares of vines and decided to produce his own wine. It only took a few years for his estate to become a trusted name in Burgundy. In the early 2000s, winemaker Éric Germain joined the estate, and together they decided to focus on what was most important to them: the expression of Burgundy's prestigious terroirs. In 2012, Vincent Girardin sold his business to "La Compagnie des Vins d'Autrefois," chaired by Mr. Nié, a long-standing partner of the Maison. The small team at Maison Vincent Girardin has remained the same and continues to work with rigor and passion to produce wines of the highest quality, characterized by their aromatic purity and recognized far beyond the borders of France.
The terroir
The 40-year-old vines are located in the southern Côte de Beaune in the commune of Puligny-Montrachet. The soils are brown limestone, with clay-limestone marl layers, which are thicker at higher elevations and finer-grained at lower slopes.
The grape variety
White Chardonnay is the grape variety that produces Puligny-Montrachet. This grape variety is recognizable by its small bunches and small-sized grapes.
The wine
With its beautiful, bright gold color, the 2021 Puligny-Montrachet Vieilles Vignes from the excellent Maison Vincent Girardin is a wine of great finesse, rich and delicate, which perfectly characterizes the nobility of the great terroirs of Burgundy. This flavorful white wine will be perfect as an aperitif, with shellfish, fish dishes or crudités.
