The Estate
The original tower of the property dates back to the 13th century. This building was intended to protect the lord during his visits to his lands. Several noble families have succeeded each other, and in 1972, Lucien Lurton purchased the tower and vineyard from the Clauzel family and established the winery. It was in 1992 that his daughter Marie-Laure took over the reins of the property. After investments dedicated to the vineyard and the rehabilitation of a building dating from 1934, these state-of-the-art technical installations have allowed this magnificent property to be among the finest references of the Margaux appellation.
The terroir
The plots that make up the Château La Tour de Bessan vineyard are located in Soussans, Arsac, and Cantenac, three communes in the Margaux appellation. The soils of this terroir are made up of Pyrenean gravel with varying amounts of clay depending on the area.
The grape variety
The grape varieties were selected to best suit each of the terroirs of this Margaux. Merlot is harvested first and gives the wine a fruity, rounded taste and its beautiful intense color. Cabernet Sauvignon is the king grape variety because it occupies 60% of the planted areas of the Margaux appellation. Its aromatic qualities are particularly rich and it offers excellent aging potential. Petit Verdot is a later grape variety, it is harvested after the Cabernet Sauvignon and is included in the blend to enhance the color and bring its small spicy note.
The wine
Château La Tour de Bessan is a red wine from the Margaux appellation. This half-bottle is produced by Marie-Laure Lurton, heiress of a prominent Bordeaux family. This Margaux is an elegant and charming wine. On the nose, notes of small red and black fruits, such as blackcurrant and redcurrant, emerge, followed by hints of spice. On the palate, its delicate texture and already well-melted tannins will seduce you. Between power and finesse, with a lovely freshness, this Bordeaux will pair well with red meat or game, dishes in sauce, and strong cheeses like Munster.
Dare to try half-bottle wine!
