The Terroir

The Esprit de Basté vines thrive on the mid-slopes of the hillsides, anchored in clay-gravel soils dotted with rolled pebbles. The vineyard is managed with an approach that respects the environment and the terroir: soil cultivation, sowing green manure in the fall, natural grassing, leaf removal after flowering, yield control, and manual harvesting at slightly overripe levels. The estate is certified organic.

Grape varieties and winemaking

The blend is based on a dominant Tannat (75%), supplemented by Cabernet Franc (25%). Each grape variety and each plot are vinified separately in small, wide vats. A long maceration of four weeks precedes aging for several months, carried out in old barrels and vats.

After 20 months of aging, the wine is bottled, ready to express its full personality.

This Madiran is distinguished by its dark, brilliant red color. The nose is intense, blending aromas of wild black fruits, notably blueberry, with spicy notes. On the palate, it reveals beautiful fullness, a generous and silky structure, and a pronounced aromatic complexity. A fleshy, typical and sincere wine of the Madiran terroir.

Food and wine pairings

Esprit de Basté brings a pleasant freshness to the table. It pairs wonderfully with Southwestern specialties such as garbure, confits, and stews, as well as spicy dishes and lamb.

Enjoy it today for its liveliness, or leave it in the cellar for a few years: it will reach its peak between 6 and 8 years.
