Domaine Eugène Meyer is located in the small village of Bergholtz on the Alsace wine route. Respect for nature and the land is the priority of the Meyer family, who have banned all synthetic chemicals from their vines since 1969. Eugène Meyer was also a pioneer in biodynamic winemaking and all the Domaine's wines are certified organic. The Estate

Domaine Eugène Meyer is located in Bergholtz, a small village on the Alsace Wine Route. In the 17th century, the estate was owned by the famous Murbach Abbey and supplied the religious community with grapes to pay the tithe, the tax in kind of the time. It was after the French Revolution that the first Meyer in the history of the Estate became the owner, his name was Dominique. In the 1960s, Eugène and his wife Marie-Rose took over the Estate and began to renovate it while preserving its architecture. In 1969, following an insecticide poisoning, Eugène decided to convert his entire estate to biodynamics. At the time, this pioneering approach had given rise to many questions, but this natural method has finally borne fruit: the soils are respected and nature is preserved. At the Domaine, the know-how has been passed down from father to son for many generations and it was in 1990 when Eugène and Marie-Rose retired that François took over and today he is assisted by his son Xavier.

The Terroir

The terroir of the Crémant d'Alsace of Domaine Eugène Meyer has an area of ​​2.5 hectares for a total area of ​​the property of 13 hectares. The siliceous limestone clay soil is exposed South-East on hillsides and benefits from a micro climate.

The Grape Variety

Pinot Blanc, Pinot Auxerrois, Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir are the grape varieties used to produce this Crémant d'Alsace. These grape varieties complement each other delicately, Pinot Blanc brings freshness and delicacy; Pinot Gris offers suppleness, roundness and bouquet and Pinot Noir grants body, structure and framework.
