The Estate
The ancestors of the Maillart family were already working the vines in the village of Chamery in 1703. Today, the 9th generation runs the estate located in Ecueil with Nicolas, who returned in 2003 after his studies as an engineer and oenologist. For a long time, the Maillart family has been using environmentally friendly working methods such as plowing and using only organic fertilizers, which has allowed it today to be labeled HVE (High Environmental Value) level 3 and sustainable viticulture.
The terroir
The plots are located in the villages of Villers Allerand (1er cru), Ecueil (1er cru), Bouzy (Grand Cru) and the soils are diverse with clay-limestone in the majority and a small proportion of calcareous sand.
The grape variety
Pinot Noir is the main grape variety in the Platine Premier Cru cuvée, it is a black grape with translucent flesh. It is the grape that gives its fruit and power to Champagne. Chardonnay is a vigorous and early white grape variety, it gives all its freshness to Champagne. Meunier or Pinot Meunier is a black grape variety with white juice, its stronghold is Champagne where it is the second most planted grape variety behind Pinot Noir. It is hardy and does not fear spring frosts.
The wine
Made from a blend of Pinot Noir in majority, Chardonnay and Meunier, this Cuvée Platine is a half-bottle of Premier Cru Champagne with a brilliant gold color, with fine bubbles that gently rise to the surface. Its nose with aromas of ripe apples and pears is very expressive, with toasted and floral notes. On the palate, the attack is vinous and ample, this Champagne is fresh and unctuous, supported by a great length.
Dare to try half-bottle wine!
