The Estate
At the age of 19, in 1980, Vincent Girardin inherited two hectares of vines from his parents and decided to create his own wine estate. Coming from a family of winegrowers from Santenay, he has always been passionate about working in the vineyard. The quality of the wines he produces is quickly recognized throughout the world and allows him to expand his production, he then focuses on the great appellations of the Côte de Beaune: Meursault, Puligny-Montrachet, Chassagne-Montrachet, Saint-Aubin, Santenay, Savigny-Lès-Beaune, Aloxe-Corton, Volnay and Pommard. In 2012, Vincent Girardin transferred his entire business to a long-time partner, Jean-Pierre Nié, who is President of the Compagnie des Vins d'Autrefois in Beaune. Maison Vincent Girardin is a sure bet in Burgundy.
The terroir
The Pommard Vieilles Vignes vineyard is located north of the village of Pommard on the Volnay side. The soil is very clayey with some limestone on the surface.
The grape variety
Pinot Noir is the main grape variety of the great red wines of Burgundy. Its small berries have a beautiful bluish-black color. It produces red wines for laying down with aromas of red fruits and it gives roundness and structure to the wine.
The wine
This Pommard Vieilles Vignes from Maison Vincent Girardin displays a deep red color with ruby highlights, promising an aromatic richness. The nose opens with intense notes of ripe red fruits, such as cherry and raspberry, with spicy and floral nuances. We also perceive touches of undergrowth and tobacco, the fruit of careful barrel aging. On the palate, the attack is frank and velvety. The tannins are elegant and well integrated, while a beautiful acidity offers a delicate freshness. The finish is persistent, leaving a mark of fruits and spices. This Pommard Vieilles Vignes 2022 in half-bottle will pair perfectly with roasted red meats, dishes in sauce or mature cheeses. Ideal with beef bourguignon or coq au vin.
Ready to drink now, it will evolve favorably with a few years of aging, reaching its peak until 2032.
Dare to try half bottles of wine!
