The Estate
Built in 1612 by Capuchin monks, Domaine Weinbach is located at the foot of the Schlossberg hill, in the heart of the vineyards. In 1898, the estate was acquired by the Faller brothers, who passed it on to their son and nephew, Théo. In 1979, his wife Colette took over the reins with her daughters Catherine and Laurence, who share the same passion for this magnificent terroir. Today, Catherine expertly manages the prestigious estate, assisted by her sons Eddy and Théo. The entire vineyard is cultivated biodynamically.
The terroir
Planted in the Clos des Capucins and on the adjacent vineyards, the Muscat of Domaine Weinbach is situated on a rich and diverse terroir, bringing together exceptional geological characteristics. Its gravelly soil is sandy-loamy on a base of granite pebbles.
The grape variety
Muscat Ottonel is very common in Alsace. This Muscat variety produces fruity wines with pleasant acidity. Its very juicy berries have a delightfully musky flavor. Alsatian Muscat is a small-berried grape variety that should not be confused with the sweet, luscious Muscats found in other regions of France. Both of these varieties produce exceptional dry white wines.
Wine
The Muscat Réserve from Domaine Weinbach is a wine with a brilliant pale green color. The nose reveals a subtle aroma of honeysuckle and elderflower. The palate is very well-balanced, offering a beautiful contrast between the gentle acidity and the ripe fruit. It's a delicious wine, ideal as an aperitif, fabulous with asparagus, and wonderful with a medley of sautéed vegetables.
