The Estate
Built in 1612 by Capuchin monks, Domaine Weinbach is located at the foot of the Schlossberg hill, in the heart of the vineyards. In 1898, the estate was taken over by the Faller brothers, who passed it on to their son and nephew, Théo. In 1979, his wife, Colette, took over the reins with her daughters, Catherine and Laurence, who share a passion for this magnificent terroir. Today, Catherine runs the prestigious estate with a masterful hand, accompanied by her sons, Eddy and Théo. The entire vineyard is managed biodynamically.
The terroir
Planted in the Clos des Capucins and adjacent vineyards, the Muscat du Domaine Weinbach is planted on a rich and diverse terroir, combining exceptional geological characteristics. Its gravelly soil is sandy-silty on a bed of granite pebbles.
The grape variety
Muscat Ottonel is widely grown in Alsace. This Muscat variety produces fruity wines with a pleasant acidity. Its very juicy berries have a pleasantly musky flavor. Muscat d'Alsace is a small-berry grape variety that should not be confused with the sweet and liqueur-like Muscats found in other regions of France. These two grape varieties produce exceptional dry white wines.
The wine
Domaine Weinbach's Muscat Réserve is a wine with a brilliant pale green color, and the nose reveals subtle aromas of honeysuckle and elderflower. The palate is very balanced, offering a beautiful contrast between the gentle acidity and the ripeness of the fruit. This is a delicious wine, ideal as an aperitif, fabulous with asparagus, and wonderful with sautéed vegetables.
