The Estate
Built in 1612 by the Capuchin monks, the Domaine Weinbach is located at the foot of the Schlossberg hill, in the heart of the vineyards. In 1898 the estate was taken over by the Faller brothers who passed it on to their son and nephew Théo. In 1979, his wife Colette took over the reins with her daughters Catherine and Laurence who share the same passion for this magnificent terroir. Today, Catherine runs the prestigious estate with a master's hand, accompanied by her sons Eddy and Théo. The entire vineyard is managed biodynamically.
The terroir
Planted in the Clos des Capucins and on the adjacent vineyards, the Muscat of Domaine Weinbach is located on a rich and diverse terroir, bringing together exceptional geological characteristics. Its gravelly soil is sandy-silty on a base of granite pebbles.
The grape variety
Muscat Ottonel is very present in Alsace. This variety of Muscat produces fruity wines with a pleasant acidity. Its very juicy berries have a pleasantly musky flavor. Muscat d'Alsace is a small-berry grape variety that should not be confused with the sweet and mellow Muscats that can be found in other regions of France. These two grape varieties produce exceptional dry white wines.
The wine
The Muscat Réserve from Domaine Weinbach is a wine with a bright pale green color, the nose reveals a subtle scent of honeysuckle and elderflower. The palate is very balanced and offers a beautiful contrast between the sweet acidity and the maturity of the fruits. It is a gourmet wine ideal as an aperitif, fabulous with asparagus and wonderful with a pan-fried vegetable.
