The Estate
Located in Colombier in the Dordogne, the Ancienne Cure was founded in the mid-19th century. Five generations later, in 1984, Christian Roche inherited part of the property and undertook work to develop the winemaking cellar and became an independent winemaker. The Estate covers 50 hectares and in 2009, Christian Roche decided to convert his entire vineyard to Organic Agriculture and obtained certification in 2012. His goal is to try to achieve a perfect balance between power and fruit in the most natural way possible.
The terroir
The vines of the Monbazillac terroir are planted on a very well structured clay-limestone hillside soil, rich in minerals and with a high rate of organic matter. The rooting is deep, it is a terroir with high potential for the production of sweet wines.
The grape variety
Sémillon is a white grape variety mainly used to produce sweet wines, it is the king grape variety in Monbazillac. Muscadelle is a traditional grape variety of the Bordeaux region. It gives the wine intense aromas of honeysuckle and acacia.
The wine
The Cuvée Jour de Fruit from L'Ancienne Cure is a well-balanced sweet white wine with a nose of white peach and candied fruit and a dense and fat mouthfeel. The finish is lively on the fruit. This small bottle of Monbazillac will be wonderful as an aperitif with foie gras appetizers. This Bergerac wine will be delicious with melon and to its advantage with dessert.
