The Estate

The Château Latour-Martillac Estate owes its name to the tower that stands in the courtyard of the castle, a vestige of a fort dating from the 12th century, built by Montesquieu's ancestors. In 1871, the property was bought by Edouard Kressmann who was seduced by the quality of the estate's wines and who had just founded his own trading house. In 1930, Alfred Kressmann, Edouard's eldest son, took over the reins of the estate and began a long restructuring process. The vineyard, which then consisted of around fifteen hectares, mainly planted with white, was supplemented with Cabernet-Sauvignon. This long work, interrupted by the war, was continued by Jean Kressmann who succeeded his father in 1954. Château Latour-Martillac is a Grand Cru Classé of Graves in both red and white. The family tradition continues today with Tristan and Loïc, Jean's sons, who work passionately to harvest the best of this authentic Graves terroir.

The terroir

Located on the plateau overlooking the village of Martillac, the vineyard rests on a soil of Günzian gravel from the Quaternary.

The grape variety

Cabernet-Sauvignon is a black grape variety. It is undoubtedly the most famous grape variety in the world and it is the king of Bordeaux. It produces full-bodied, powerful and tannic wines with exceptional aging potential. Merlot is a cross between Cabernet-Franc and Magdeleine Noire, it is dark in color and offers a superb aromatic palette. Petit-Verdot is in a way the third role in the blends of Bordeaux châteaux. It brings its little touch that will refine the great Médoc wines to perfection.

The wine

This Château Latour-Martillac is a red Pessac-Léognan with a deep ruby color. The nose reveals aromas of black fruits complemented by notes of smoke, liquorice and tobacco. The attack is fresh and ample, the palate is powerful and fleshy. It is an elegant wine with firm tannins that announce a solid aging potential. This magnificent Pessac-Léognan will pair perfectly with red meat in sauce, grilled white meat or a platter of charcuterie.
