The Estate

The Château Lanessan estate covers 350 hectares, 85 of which are planted in Cussac-Fort-Médoc, a village bordering the Saint-Julien appellation. The vines, averaging 30 years old, produce high-quality grapes on a terroir composed of gravel, brown soils with some marl, and limestone.

The terroir

The Haut-Médoc terroir, where Château Lanessan is located, is renowned for its gravelly soils and clayey hillsides, providing ideal conditions for growing Bordeaux grape varieties. As a wine from this region, the 2020 Château Lanessan should reflect these characteristics, likely featuring a combination of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and other traditional grape varieties. An area of 32 hectares of vines, with an average age of 30 years, planted on deep Garonne gravel soils, allows for the production of this exceptional wine.

The grape variety

The 2020 vintage of Château Lanessan showcases a balanced blend of grape varieties, primarily composed of 52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 43% Merlot, and 5% Petit Verdot. This meticulous selection of grape varieties gives the wine a distinctive and complex personality. The harvest, carried out mechanically, benefits from careful grape selection through optical sorting. Château Lanessan's judicious use of grape varieties demonstrates its commitment to quality and the search for balance in the expression of the terroir.

The wine

This Haut-Médoc is characterized by elegance, tannic structure, and red fruit aromas. It has a reputation for aging well, gaining complexity over time. The new vintage of Château Lanessan was aged in oak barrels for a year, with one-third new oak, one-third one-year-old oak, and one-third two-year-old oak. The result is a wine that best expresses the characteristics of each grape variety, with a complex and elegant nose, remarkable structure on the palate, fleshy tannins, and a lingering finish.
