How to extend the shelf life of your wine?
In a previous article, we looked at how to determine if a wine is still safe to drink. Now, let’s explore how to extend the shelf life of your bottles to maximize their tasting potential.
1. Optimal Storage
Wine should be stored in a cool, dark place, ideally at a constant temperature between 12 and 15°C. Avoid temperature fluctuations and direct exposure to sunlight.
2. Bottle Position
Store bottles horizontally. This keeps the cork moist, preventing it from drying out and letting air in.
3. Humidity and Ventilation
A humidity level of around 70% is optimal to prevent the cork from drying out or the labels from deteriorating. Ensure good ventilation to prevent mold.
4. Avoid Vibrations
Vibrations can disrupt the aging of wine. Avoid storing bottles near vibrating appliances such as refrigerators.
5. Consumption after Opening
Once opened, a bottle of wine can be stored in the refrigerator for 3 to 5 days. Use an airtight stopper or vacuum pump to extend its life.
By following these tips, you can extend the shelf life of your wine and ensure that you enjoy every bottle at its best. For more information, feel free to check out our previous article on our blog here .
