The Estate
Founded in 1929, Maison Amadieu is the story of a family of passionate winegrowers who work with respect for the environment and strive to manage the vines as naturally as possible. The Amadieu family also manages the Domaine Grand Romane in the Gigondas appellation, which represents 40 hectares of hillsides, culminating at an altitude of over 400m in the heart of the Dentelles de Montmirail massif.
The terroir
Aged over 60 years, the old vines of Domaine Grand Romane are planted on the highest part of the plot. The soils of these hillsides are composed of Upper Cretaceous sandstone limestone and sandy marl.
The grape variety
Grenache noir is a very popular black grape variety, seductive for its deliciousness and generosity. It produces a powerful wine with a dark color and a high alcohol content. Mourvèdre is a cousin of Grenache, it loves the sun and thrives in well-exposed soils. It gives the wine a seductive palette of aromas ranging from scents of ripe black fruits to bouquets of sweet spices such as cloves or cinnamon. Syrah is renowned for producing spicy and powerful red wines with good aging potential.
The wine
With its deep ruby red color, this half-bottle of Gigondas Cuvée Prestige Vieilles Vignes from Domaine Grand Romane is to be enjoyed now and over the next ten years. These aromas of black and red fruits candied with vanilla join the toasted flavors of thyme and rosemary. The tannins are powerful and the endless finish gives way to liquorice and peppery spices. This Gigondas is ideal with a wild boar stew.
Dare to try half-bottle wine!
